Celebrating Britain’s Beauty

The exhibition was held at Cafe Phillies in Kensington, a special place to Katherine, where her works were also showcased for the ensuing week. Katherine wanted to bring a little of England’s wild beauty into London to remind people that conservation can start at home.

This series consists of 10 paintings, a mixture of oils on canvas and smaller oil studies, all focusing on Britain’s natural world. With bright colours and bold strokes, Katherine’s exhibition open-heartedly captures “a snippet” of the beauty that is found on our small island.

Katherine’s creative process for Celebrating Britain’s Beauty was a little unexpected. She had already completed a large number of the pieces for the series when her parrot, Trumpet, passed away. Her grief at losing a beloved companion led her to destroy all of the existing works and start again from scratch. Somehow, this process brought with it a sense of joy and clarity that is tangible within each bright, bold artwork.

“I hope that when people look at my paintings, they feel pure joy, the beauty and the lightness of nature, because that is the joy that I feel every time I step outside into our natural world.”
