Painting the Roses Red
Oil on canvas, 76 x 101 cm
Painting the Roses Red is part of my recent ‘hands-on’ series, where I painted entirely with my fingers in order to return to a more connected way of creating art.
There’s something so unapologetic about this piece — it practically bursts off the canvas at you. Swirls of thick, juicy red roses dance through a wild tangle of greens, purples and blues, like a garden caught in a dream just before it wakes. The strokes were bold and intuitive, full of movement and life — you almost feel that you are a part of the painting; you can hear the rustle of the leaves and feel the sunlight catching your petals. This garden is unafraid of anything.
