Tanzania to London: Unexpected Art Conversations

Don’t you love how art has a way of bringing people together in the most unexpected ways?

Just over a week ago, I found myself standing slightly dazed on a red carpet in Grosvenor Square, beneath the Tanzanian flag, shaking hands with the Tanzanian High Commissioner. It was one of those surreal moments where you’re both proud and slightly overwhelmed all at once.

Meeting the Tanzanian High Commissioner

We ended up having a lovely conversation in Swahili — about (can you guess?) my shoes! I’d hand-painted them the night before in green, yellow, blue and black (the Tanzanian flag), a small tribute to Tanzania on its 61st Anniversary of the Union with the UK. The High Commissioner loved them!

It wasn’t my first time engaging with the Tanzanian community in London through art. Last year, I had the privilege of exhibiting my work and giving a short speech at the Tanzanian Embassy during an event raising awareness around Sickle Cell Disease. Both events sparked the most meaningful conversations — about art, impact, and the power of creativity to open doors and connect people across cultures.

From Dar es Salaam to London, I’ve seen firsthand how art continues to create connection, conversation, and even a little magic. And for that, I’m endlessly grateful.

If you're curious to see more of what I’ve been working on, a few pieces are still available in my digital catalogue, so do reach out.

And if you ever feel like just saying hello, I’d love that too.
